This giant sunflower was sown by the birds. Now the bees are enjoying the nectar. How's that for being 'wildlife friendly'!

This year's sunshine has brought out the butterflies again. The buddleia bush has been covered with them. Their colours are really special.

MID AUGUST

23/07/2013

It's now the middle of August and the school holidays are in full swing. We are in the middle of a run of short breaks which means the washing line never seems to be empty! However, we know that many holiday cottages will only take full weeks at this time of year and not everyone has the luxury of a full week's holiday in one go. Surprisingly, the weather has remained good - so often it takes a nose dive as soon as the schools break up.

Autumn is not far away and it's time to be thinking of Autumn breaks, whether a few days or a week away, now is the time to book. We have vacancies in September, October of November - check out the calendar above and choose your dates now.

Encouraging Wildlife

23/07/2013

We spend a lot of time and effort encouraging birds, insects, butterflies and animals into the garden. However, this last week has been spent chasing the blackbirds out of the greenhouse and polytunnel where they have been eating the ripening tomatoes. I've even found half eaten tomatoes around the garden where they must have dropped them. So now I've got barriers over the doors to stop them getting in. The garden is starting to look like Fort Knox!

Phew! It's Hot!

23/07/2013

Well, we've all moaned for the last few summers about the weather - cold and wet. Now we've actually got the sun, it's too hot! It's bad enough here in the North - don't know how you southerners are coping. Yesterday we had a terrific storm - thunder, lightning, hail and torrential rain for over an hour. It did clear the air but today seems just as hot. Good for the holidaymakers and everywhere is buzzing. Let's hope it lasts!
