They're back! We haven't seen the ducks to 3-4 weeks; they must have been dining elsewhere or even been on their holidays! Anyway, they're here, waiting to be fed. No sign of Gilbert yet - no doubt he'll wander along in the next day or two. He always was slow on the uptake.

This is our beautiful Horse Chestnut tree. The colours have been spectacular this year. Someone grew it from a conker and gave it to us when very small. It has thrived and grown each year and is now old enough to produce conkers.

Day Out

30/09/2013

We treated ourselves to a day out and went to Castle Howard, courtesy of free tickets won in a competition. It's only about an hour's drive away and turned out to be a lovely day. The weather was perfect; the house and grounds were amazing; we had an excellent lunch and the garden centre provided a selection of plants that I hadn't already got. What a day! We can certainly recommend it - even if you do have to pay for your tickets!!

New Visitors

30/09/2013

We had two new visitors this week. Beautiful male pheasants - really colourful. As usual, I didn't have the camera and by the time I'd found it, they'd gone! We sometimes see them in the depths of winter when food is scarce and they make for the veggie patch.
