These new arrivals appeared this morning. I guess they are newly hatched - they are so small, yellow & fluffy! This afternoon they had a swim on the pond. They struggled to get out again - it took a while to work out how to use the plank of wood as a means of escape.

School Holidays

The school holidays start this weekend. We still have a few available nights in August - 11-16 (5 nights or a short break). Check out the website for prices and further information.

Trouble on't Track

12/07/2015

Couldn't understand why the trains were stopping outside our house today. Also the traffic was backing up from the crossing almost to the cattle mart. Finally realised there was a problem with the gates closing. Each train had to operate them manually - opening them before they came through then stopping to close them after leaving. You can't beat the old fashioned ways - where's the signal man?? Seem to have got it sorted now.

Spent the day at Grosmont. It was the North York Moors Railway Classic Vehicle weekend. The weather stayed fine. Lots to see and interesting people to talk to.

Our old apple tree is still going strong. This is the one that's fallen over with very little of the main trunk left. It's been absolutely covered with apples this year but we've taken many of them off to stop the tree wearing itself out. Visitors do check to see if it is still there every time they book into the cottage. Wonder how long it will last?

Topsy Turvy Summer!

26/06/2015

The weather seems to change day by day - one minute it's scorching hot, the next we've got thunder storms and today it's cooler with rain.

The cottage has been quiet over the last couple of weeks. Not sure if that's to do with the weather; maybe people are going abroad; or maybe we have got something wrong!

A quiet spell allows us to re-assess what we do. When we are caught up in the cycle of welcoming guests, cleaning the cottage and doing the laundry, there is little time to attend to anything other than any immediate repairs. We are always grateful for any suggestions, but cannot implement everything as we have to weigh these up for the benefit of everyone.

You can always comment here - just log in as a guest. Or, alternatively, leave a comment on our new Facebook page (follow the link from our website).

Look forward to hearing from you - or better still we would love to welcome you to the cottage.

Review the Cottage

Why not put a review of your stay on our Facebook page. The Visitors' book contains some lovely comments - for which we are very grateful - but now you can add these to our Facebook page and reach a wider audience.

Facebook

26/06/2015

We've set up a Facebook page for the holiday cottage. You will find the link on the home page - just click and it should take you there.

This is my first attempt at Facebook, so I'm still finding my way and there is further work to do to upload more photos and comments. Please add your own comments - it's always nice to know what people think. Even negative comments can be useful!
