The Local Area

Ruswarp Village is situated on the banks of the River Esk approximately 1.5 miles from Whitby.  Village amenities include:

  • excellent butcher
  • small general store
  • the Bridge Inn is the local pub and provides meals daily
  • fishing & boating are available on the river
  • riverside cafe
  • children's indoor play facility
  • miniature railway

Transport links include:

  • regular bus service into Whitby with links to surrounding villages, Scarborough, Middlesbrough and inland as far as Leeds
  • British Rail train service to Whitby & up the Esk Valley to Middlesbrough
  • the North York Moors steam railway passes the cottage and can be boarded from Whitby or Grosmont
  • a local footpath along the river & railway line provides easy access to Whitby

The area is a haven for nature and wildlife with both coast and moors on the doorstep.  Lucky wildlife spotters can see otters, badgers, herons, kingfishers, also swans and ducks regularly raising young on the river each year.
