Sad News

Sadly Peter passed away on Tuesday.  After many years of illness, it was a blessing and he is now at peace.

Many of you who met him when visiting the cottage will know what a character he was and remember his passion for collecting 'anything old'.

The sale of the cottages has to go on hold until probate is granted but my plans are too far advanced to change at this stage.  I can now look forward to a future in Filey.

Closed for Business

Closed for Business

The cottage is now closed for business.  Our last few bookings are due in before the 31 March.  After 13 successful seasons it is time to move on as I have to finance Peter's nursing home costs.  Early April will see a house clearance sale and then the cottages will go up for auction.

A New Visitor

Spotted this lovely pheasant enjoying the sunshine in the greenhouse this afternoon.

Last Chance

Just a few available dates left - 24 February - 9 March.  Last chance to book before we close.

Spring Sunshine

Spring Sunshine

Today's view down the river in the spring sunshine.  Is winter behind us?  There are still some vacancies before the cottage closes on 31 March.

Very pretty this morning - but so cold!

Spring is Coming

Spring is Coming

Just spotted the first snowdrops and the first squills in the garden this morning - Spring can't be too far away.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

This is the time of year when I usually send out the Railway Cottage Newsletter and booking forms for the coming season.  However, as many of you know, this is my last season as I have to sell up to pay my husband's nursing home fees.  Although sad and unfair, I have to accept the inevitable and will be moving down the coast to Filey - a fresh start and a new adventure!

There are just 3 months left before I close at the end of March so still time to book a last visit - a short weekend break or something longer.  Although not the height of season, you get to see Whitby's quieter side.

Just call or email to reserve your dates.

2019

Happy New Year

Good wishes to everyone for 2019.

Signs of Spring

Signs of Spring

Even though the shortest day and Christmas are yet to come, there are signs of spring in the garden.  These bulbs are pushing through strongly in today's sunshine.

Frosty Morning

Frosty Morning

A sharp frost this morning at Railway Cottages.  At least it's not raining!  And the sun is rising - a good day in prospect.

As Predicted!!

As Predicted!!

Cold, wet & windy here today.  Not many people around - so, as predicted, the ducks are back in force.  They are so fickle!!

Autumn Colours

Autumn Colours

A walk round the garden yesterday shows that autumn isn't over yet - some lovely colours out there!

Moles Again

Moles Again

They're back - those pesky moles!!

Christmas is Coming!

November already!  Just 5 months to go before I close for business (selling up to pay my husband's nursing home costs!)

We currently have a promotional offer of 10% discount on all November dates.

Christmas is coming up quickly.  There is availability over the Christmas period.  Why not book a short break to relax before Christmas or visit Whitby's unique shops for those last minutes presents - there are lots of Christmas fayres and craft events coming up.

Although this is a quieter time for Whitby, there is still lots on offer.  Lower rates in the cottage, lower visitor numbers so no crowds, parking charges suspended. Experience a 'different' Whitby.

Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey

Illuminations at Whitby Abbey - to coincide with the Goths this weekend and Hallowe'en next Wednesday

Duck News

Duck News

The ducks have not been around for a while - they are patronising other establishments at the moment.  I've spotted them in the garden of another holiday cottage and this afternoon they were sunbathing on the river bank opposite.  They'll be back when they get hungry!!

Better Things to Come

Better Things to Come

After a weekend of high winds and heavy rain, the day ended with this beautiful sunset.  Here's hoping for better weather tomorrow.
