Another misty, drizzly day again - just the eastern side of the country! Not a day for gardening but still lots of things to see. Spotted this lovely spider's web complete with owner in the garden. Even in bad weather you can find things of beauty!

Christmas/New Year Breaks

Is it too early to think about booking your Christmas or New Year Break? Probably not as the shops are already selling Christmas items.

Unlike many holiday cottages, we offer the Christmas and New Year dates at the Low Season Rates - no hiking of charges just because it is Christmas/New Year. We also take bookings for 2 nights and upwards and your holiday can begin on any day.

Like to stay at home with the family at Christmas - why not book a short break before Christmas to do your present shopping. Whitby has lots of independent shops so you can buy unusual presents for those difficult to please relatives.

The new heaters are proving popular & simple to use - you can be as warm as toast, even if we do get a White Christmas.

There has been a Diesel Heritage weekend on the North York Moors Railway over the last couple of days. Every engine passing the cottage has been a diesel - not a steamer in sight!

Autumn Days

After heavy rain last Saturday, we've had a cracking week weatherwise - misty cool mornings with a nip in the air followed by warm, clear sunny days. The garden is full of birds (& ducks) all frantically feeding ready for winter. As well as feeding from the bird table, they are taking seeds and small insects from the dying plants - a great excuse not to tidy the garden too early! Of course, the ducks are coming up in great numbers, several times a day in the hope of a feed - they are not always successful - sometimes I ignore them, much to their disgust!!

All summer we've had swallows nesting in the garage - we've had to leave the skylight open so they can get in and out when the doors are closed. I think there is a late batch of chicks as the adults can still be seen regularly flying in and out, as if they are still feeding young. They will have to grow up quickly as they have a long way to fly as they migrate south for the winter. Some are already gathering on the telephone wires, ready for the off.

The Ducks are Back!

The ducks disappeared through the summer - just one or two coming to be fed. They've spent the summer on the other side of the river where there's been more visitors to the boats & children's play area during the school holidays. Now they are back in force - coming several times a day to be fed - whole flocks of 20 or more. How fickle can you get!
